Walking through Freak Alley feels like discovering a hidden street-art secret: perfect for late-afternoon strolls, impromptu photo ops or just soaking up Boise’s creative spirit.

Boise Art Glass

Perhaps you’ve noticed our striking glass chandeliers in our lobby or the 200+ coordinating sconces lining our walls by Boise Art Glass. A small glass-blowing studio/gallery where visitors can watch live glass-blowing or even take a beginner class and make their own piece. This is a unique, hands-on art experience, perfect for those who appreciate craft, creativity and taking home a handmade souvenir with real Boise spirit.

Idaho State Museum

The Idaho State Museum sits right next door to Inn at 500 Capitol, making it one of the easiest (and most enriching) stops on your downtown Boise adventure. This engaging cultural landmark brings Idaho’s story to life through exhibits that span the state’s geological wonders, Indigenous heritage, pioneering spirit and the dynamic relationship between its people and the land. From immersive permanent galleries exploring origins and landscapes to rotating spaces that highlight special collections and narratives, it’s a meaningful, walk-next-door experience that invites guests to slow down, reflect and gain a richer understanding of the people and moments that have shaped Idaho into what it is today.

Idaho Military History Museum

For those seeking something a little different, the Idaho Military History Museum offers an unexpectedly compelling look at the stories that helped shape the state. Through authentic artifacts, preserved uniforms, historic vehicles and personal accounts, the museum brings Idaho’s military legacy to life.

Basque Block

Basque Country is a community in Northern Spain (bordering France) that has its own language, food and cultural traditions. Many Basques immigrated to the area during the late 1800s to work as sheepherders and then told their relatives and friends to come join them. Now, generations later, the Basque community is still growing and thriving, including touchstones such as Boise’s Basque Block, unique Basque festivals and several Basque restaurants.

The Egyptian Theatre

Just a short walk from Inn at 500 Capitol, the Egyptian Theatre is one of Boise’s most treasured historic landmarks and the city’s last remaining single-screen downtown theatre. Opened in 1927 and meticulously restored, this iconic venue hosts everything from movies, concerts, opera and touring productions to film festivals and special screenings, all within a richly detailed Egyptian Revival setting complete with gilded prosceniums, winged scarabs and exceptional acoustics. One of the most atmospheric bars in downtown Boise, Thick as Thieves is a hidden cocktail speakeasy with a moody, candle-lit vibe (think soft lighting, intimate seating and a cozy sense of mystery). To enter, you slip in through a side door marked with thieving-bird imagery, climb a narrow stairway, find an old-school phone and dial 102. If a mirrored wall swings open, you’re in. Inside, you’ll find well-crafted cocktails (many classic, some creative), small bites or snacks, and maybe one of the best date-night ambiences in the city. 

Hemlock

Just steps from your guestroom, Hemlock, Inn at 500 Capitol’s intimate signature lounge, offers a refined yet adventurous escape where creative mixology deserves its own spotlight. Fresh-squeezed juices, infused syrups and top-shelf spirits anchor house cocktails that range from bold and imaginative to elegantly timeless, whether you’re sipping a Hemlock old fashioned or the Ponderosa Sour. One of Boise’s best-known speakeasies, you’ll find it tucked behind heavy curtains or a secret entrance beside a fry company, with a cozy, moody vibe.

Jack's Urban Meeting Place (JUMP)

If you’re looking for some unexpected fun and an atmosphere steeped in creative energy, consider a visit to JUMP. JUMP’s a creative activity center just a short ride or longer walk from Inn at 500 Capitol. It’s a playful, inventive space where art and surprise collide. Outside, you’ll find The Climber, a three-story net structure designed for some vertical fun, as well as a five-story spiral slide. Inside you’ll find exhibition spaces, multipurpose studios (art, cooking, physical activity) and an amphitheater. Scattered throughout you can even find a collection of 52 vintage tractors on display — a quirky nod to Boise’s agricultural roots. 

Clubhound

This member-only club for dogs (don’t worry, your pup’s a member when you stay at Inn at 500 Capitol) is a playground for pups and their people. At the heart of it all is a dog park designed with both dogs and humans in mind. With 100,000 square feet of fully fenced, off-leash space inside and outside, dogs can run free, explore play equipment and live their best lives. Meanwhile, you’re free to relax with wine, beer or something from their extensive non-alcoholic drink menu.
